The talit is a traditional, four cornered garment, worn as
a covering during prayer by Jewish men. The fringes attached to the four
corners of the talit are called Tzitzit. The origin of this
tradition is found in Numbers 15:37-41. God commanded the Tzitzit
for His people to look at as a reminder to obey His commands and not to
follow after our own hearts.
It is customary to recite Psalm 36:7 when putting on the Talit.
"How precious is Thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men
take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings." The talit is
considered to be symbolic of the covering shelter of God's wings.
The woman in Luke 8:43-48, understood the power and authority in the
word of God when she reached out to take hold of the Tzitzit on Jesus'
talit. There is healing in His wings and by faith she took hold of
it. (Malachi 4:2) In Matthew 14:36, we see that all who touched His
Tzitzit were healed. |
